Who are we?

We are Universal Legal Protection Ltd (“ULP”), the UK’s most experienced and qualified specialist After-the-Event (“ATE”) legal expenses insurance broker.

Founded in 1999, ULP is (and always has been) independently owned. Its Directors have well over fifty years of insurance broking experience between them including more than twenty years specialising in ATE insurance.

At ULP, we stand for reliability, integrity, transparency and trust. We are independent of the Insurers with whom we deal and transact business.

What do we do?

We help our clients to arrange suitable and appropriate ATE insurance cover, whether for an individual risk (“one-off case”) or for a volume of cases (“delegated authority scheme/facility”).

As an insurance broker, we are different to virtually all other providers in that we are focused on the needs of Solicitors and their clients.

Whatever product you (as our client) are seeking, we help obtain cover at reasonable cost, and we assist in presenting each client’s proposal submission in the optimum manner.

We have strong relationships with the Insurers with whom we transact business, and negotiate with them on our clients’ behalf.

We seek to make a difference by offering choices, advice, guidance and intelligent solutions.

We make it our job to regularly review all the ATE insurance products available and we encourage Insurers to offer the cover we see as being appropriate to our clients’ needs.

Are we regulated?

• Yes, we are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA)
• We carry professional indemnity insurance in accordance with FSA requirements
• We are a member of the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA)
• The Directors are qualified members of The Chartered Insurance Institute
• We maintain statutory trust bank accounts for client monies.
