Getting a Quotation for After the Event Insurance

What is needed?

To get one or more Quotations for a one-off After the Event (ATE) Litigation Insurance risk, a Solicitor needs to complete ULP's Proposal Form with his/her client, provide certain other information requested and e-mail or post everything to ULP in the DX or by normal mail.

ULP’s Proposal Form is acceptable to all of the Insurers currently operating in the ATE insurance market, therefore a Solicitor and his/her client only need to complete the one Proposal Form.

Is there a cost involved?

ULP charges a £100 Application Fee for each Proposal submitted, payable by the Solicitor. This will be the only fee a Solicitor needs to pay, no matter how many Insurers ULP approaches.

If a Solicitor is a regular user of ULP’s services, the application fee is negotiable and may well be waived.

Please do contact us if you wish to discuss your specific requirements.

How long does it take?

It depends on the complexity of the case and the quality of the supporting documentation, but (and this is ‛worst case’) we aim to be back to you with a useful indication within two to three weeks and provide you with one or more Quotations within a month or so of receipt of all the requisite information.

What will help when seeking quotations?

Although Insurers obviously vary as regards their requirements, it is fair to say that prospects of success need to be better than 50/50 and the longer the case has been running, the better the prospects need to be.

A comprehensively and neatly completed Proposal Form and helpful additional information, for example a succinct summary of the facts and issues, what stage the case has reached, what the defence is, expert opinions, evidence etc will improve the proposer’s chances of obtaining a Quotation from one or more Insurers.

A neatly and professionally constructed submission normally pays dividends, and ULP will help you achieve this if indeed help is needed.
