Richard Myrtle - managing directorRichard was born in 1957 and has worked in Insurance since graduating from University in 1980. After several years of all-round general insurance training in the City of London, Richard worked as a Lloyd’s Broker specialising in professional indemnity and directors & officers insurance until moving on to Legal Expenses Insurance in 1990. Since 1990, Richard has specialised in all aspects of UK and overseas Legal Expenses Insurance, initially with The Legal Protection Group and then with Abbey Legal Protection, before founding Universal Legal Protection (ULP) in 1999. Richard has built ULP into one of the very few specialist ATE legal expenses Insurance Brokers operating in the UK market, broking the full range of ATE risks, namely Schemes / Facilities for Solicitors, and individual / one-off risks, including some risks requiring very substantial limits of indemnity. Richard’s City of London broking background, experience and contacts have enabled him to source ATE insurance capacity in more insurance markets than just the conventional ATE markets. Richard has also helped his partner and co-director Eamonn Kelly develop ULP in to being one of the leading Pension Trustee Liability Insurance Brokers operating in the UK market. Richard is regularly consulted by the media on trends and developments in the After the Event arena, and is a regular speaker at Conferences. Eamonn Kelly - directorEamonn was also born in 1957 and has worked as an Insurance Broker since 1976. He has always been client focused (having never worked for an Insurer), but has a healthy respect for the Insurers that he deals with. His early career was spent in Nottingham and Manchester working for a National Insurance Broker. Since joining ULP in 2003, Eamonn has helped the Company move on from being predominantly dependant on Personal Injury claims emanating from Claims Management Companies to dealing with a substantial number of Solicitors Firms on the full range of civil litigation categories; because of his Insurance Broking background he is used to dealing with professionals and advisers. Eamonn also has a background in professional liability insurances, in particular in the world of Pensions where he networks with Scheme Advisers, Independent Trustees and Scheme Trustees. He is regularly consulted on all professional liability matters whether it be an Independent Trustee’s own Insurance or the Pension Trustee Liability (‛PTL’) covers needed by Trustees themselves. He talks regularly to the Pension Management Institute about the types of cover that are available and how PTL works, whether it be for a ‘live’ Fund or one that is winding up. Eamonn’s strong relationships with Insurers ensure that ULP give professionals sufficient choices to make informed decisions when it comes to buying PTL, Professional Indemnity and Directors’ & Officers’ Liability Insurance. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a Chartered Insurance Broker. |
